Big ducks in our Small back yard!

Yesterday morning Mr. and Mrs. Duck came for brunch. Mr. Duck stood watch while Mrs. Duck ate with the song birds in the yard. Very large birds for our very small yard! Quite fun though!

Eggs in the nest!!

Robins built this nest on Sunday. I have been checking every day to see if there were eggs and today (Friday) there are!!!

Honestly you'd think this would be easy!

I feel like a kindergartner!!
I have paint every where! Yellow, blue and maroon! At least I was smart enough to do this outdoors. The front side walk has spots of paint, the handle to the storm door is coated with paint I am covered in paint. Now I have to clean up before Pat gets home from work! I have this brilliant idea to cover these balls in buttons and you can hang them or keep them in a bowl! Once I get the paint cleaned up and the paint dries I'll get that started. I have all the buttons picked out and sorted by color.

Cadillac in a rare moment of Cuteness

Cadillac is always reserved, sensible and aloof. What possessed him the jump into the hamper after I took the laundry down to the basement I don't know. He was so embarrassed when he figured out Mom had found him and was taking pictures.

What I found in the trash today.

A really nice backgammon set. The drawer that I can hear the pieces shaking around in is stuck tight. Hopefully an extra pair of hands will help pry it open! I'll wait till my husband gets home from work and see. No matter, it was a lovely walk and energized me for the mucking out I am attempting this afternoon. I keep getting side tracked though!

Robins were much busier than us this rainy weekend

A few years ago robins built a nest on this same ladder. That year it was on the top step (just below where they are now). It ended badly for the nest, it was knocked down very soon after completion. Hopefully this year the penthouse step will work out! Baby robins would be quite fun! Nest are really amazing feats of construction! especially when your only tool is a beak!

Kitchen project stalled due to extreme tiredness

Fridge and pantry before the move.

We just lazed around on this rainy weekend. Pat did get the rest of the drywall patches up and taped and plastered and the electrical upgrades are all roughed in. He has decided to move the fridge to the pantry alcove and put much needed cabinets and counter space around where the fridge was. The alcove hangs above the basement stairs.

Kitchen progress as of Tuesday

Pat added new wiring and new electrical boxes and started putting up the drywall patches. Pontiac is enjoying the new hole in the kitchen wall.

Things I find on trash day!

I found this curio cabinet this morning. I can't find a thing wrong with it and I am going to put all my china cat figures in it. I am a crazy cat lady after all!

Last Monday I found this great pot! Not sure what I'll do with it yet.

Gutting the kitchen

My husband gave me four days to clear out the lower kitchen cupboards and all my projects off the table so he could start gutting the kitchen! The lower cupboards were so useless that took less than an hour. The craft stuff on the kitchen table is another story... The sink was a single tub stainless sink and the garbage disposal had rusted through making our drain a bucket we had to carry outside so all this is really necessary! The back splash was fake brick painted flat white with texture paint... Hideous and unclean-able!! But we hadn't counted on having to rip out the drywall with the bricks... Always something with a remodel project! We are one day into the project and the cabinets are outside!! There is a weird wall into the family room that I want gone and so far there is a hole cut into it and my husband has finished installing the wood flooring all the way to the wall. He had already ripped up the three layers of linoleum and leveled the floor a year or so ago and put down the wood up to the cabinets. Now we have to find cabinets. I already found a double stainless sink at the Habitat For Humanity Resale Store! A new to us sink for $20. and a good cause to boot!

The things I find on the ground

Who throws out 49 pennies? I found these pennies in a pile near the side of a road. One of my Uncles who was financially successful said to look for and pick up loose change. I think that means to pay attention to the small stuff to be successful in life. As far as a means to financial success I have a ways to go, but the IRS seems to think that picking up loose change and even pop cans for redemption is a taxable pursuit?? Who knew?? I found this out from my tax man this year. You are supposed to report that stuff as income?
